Molar Mass of An Unknown Acid Lab

This lab was very fun! I didn't do the last titration lab, so this was my first experience doing a titration by myself. In order to complete this lab, we completed a titration of an unknown substance to find its molar mass. To start, we measured the amount of the acid and dissolved it in 100 mL of water. In order to get it to dissolve, we had to heat the solution on a hot plate, as well as add a stir bar to better mix the substance. Once the solution was completely dissolved, we titrated the substance with NaOH until the substance turned pink. Next, using our data, we did the math to find the molar mass of the substance, which between the two trials averaged about 177 g, which was only about a 1% error. I'm very happy with the results of the lab, because it helped a lot with my understanding of the material and we got a good grade.

  1. I agree! I thought we did very well on this lab and I was happy we were able to use our standard from before and finish early. I really enjoyed this lab, but at times it was a little stressful because the drops would come out so fast!
