pH Lecture

The pH lecture was incredibly confusing. At first, it didn't seem like it would be bad, but I was wrong. The longer that class went on, the more confused I got. By the end of class I was so confused I could barely tell my right from left. The quiz is on Monday, and this lecture was on Friday so I'm really going to have to study for the quiz. Many hours will be spent practicing and working problems to ensure I know exactly what I'm doing for the quiz. I'm very nervous, but hopefully my practice will enable me to do good.

Vitamin C Lab

The Vitamin C lab was a fun one to do. We tested 4 kinds of juice, and the purpose was to find which juice had the greatest amount of vitamin C in it. In order to determine this, we put 20 drops of each juice in a test tube, then added starch as an indicator. Then, We added an Iodine solution that we continued to add until the juice turned a dark blue color, which was the endpoint of the reaction. We tested grapefruit juice, apple juice, V8 and pear nectar, and the grapefruit juice had the greatest amount of Vitamin C. This lab connected to what we're doing in class because it served as an intro to acids and bases by having us practice how to determine endpoint and visually see the titration reactions.

Aqueous Solutions Test

The Aqueous Solutions test was fairly easy to me, relative to the difficulty of the previous tests in this class. I prepared for this test very intensely, doing all of the practice problems, which proved to be a very good thing, for the test was easy Also, some of the practice problems were very similar to questions on the test, further proving that my preparation was vital to my success. Although I have not got my grade back, I believe I did well. If I end up not getting a satisfactory grade, I'll be very confused and upset, especially because it was easy in my opinion.

Aqueous Solutions Quiz

The aqueous solutions quiz was pretty difficult. Since I missed the lecture, it was especially difficult for me. The questions were just worded weird and I was not sure what to do on some, which was frustrating. Although I don't know my grade yet, I just hope it isn't as bad as I think. Anyways, I need to study a lot for the test. This unit has been extremely challenging for me and I need to do good on this test.

Murder Investigation Lab

In this lab, we conducted an experiment to try to figure out the molarity and type of substance an unknown substance was, to try to figure out the murderer of Miss Scarlet. The substance was known to have been either potassium iodide or silver nitrate, and we had to mix the unknown solution with NaCl and Na2CO3, and predict the results in order to figure out which substance the murder weapon was. Then, using what we just learned in class about molarity, we had to find the molarity in order to figure out who the murderer was. The experiment was cool to watch, for the unknown substance and the sodium carbonate mixed and created a milky looking substance, then we had to drain out the excess using a Buchner funnel. Although the Buchner funnel took a while, it was cool to watch as the precipitate stayed in the filter and the excess drained out.
